41st Annual Cricket Match Report
Thanks to everyone who was able to attend the Oxford v Cambridge Alumni Cricket Match this year! It was a wonderful day of cricket rewarded with excellent weather and a close final result.
Oxford won the toss on a beautiful afternoon for cricket with the sun shining on the Lord’s Field at Upper Canada College. The first few overs went Cambridge’s way with some early wickets falling including both openers to leave Oxford on a precarious 30-3. Oxford’s captain Martin forced a comeback hitting a quick 50 runs retired (not out) before Mustafa also took fancy to the bowling and scored a big hitting 50 runs. A good rearguard innings by Mehedi, flamboyant cover drive by Vivek and a comical run out of Ozzy left Oxford finishing their innings on 154 all out. Cambridge in response started slowly but surely with a stoic captain’s innings by Ian. The run rate increased through some nice stroke play by Sadman and Phil. Oxford bowlers Pranav and Josh kept it tight and the wickets started to fall before veteran batter John Townley came to the crease and struck a blistering 50 to bring the victory home for Cambridge. Final result – Cambridge won by 3 wickets.
