Performance by 2015 Juno Award Winner Diana Panton

Our friends at The University Club of Toronto have invited us to a performance by jazz singer Diana Panton, winner of the 2015 Juno Award Vocal Jazz Album of the Year, who will be performing at the Club on Friday, February 26th, along with Order of Canada bassist / pianist Don Thompson and guitarist Reg Schwager. A delicious Mediterranean supper buffet will be offered throughout the evening, starting from 7pm. The hour-long performance will begin at 8 pm.

Ivy Pub Night

If you can’t make the quiz night (or don’t fancy your chances) but still want to have a beer and a chat, you may want to try the All Ivy pub night on Wednesday 27th instead. Please see our Events page for ticket information.

Oxford Alumni Dinner in Ottawa

The annual Oxford Alumni dinner in Canada’s national capital will be held on 4 February. Our speaker will be Declan Hill, whose doctoral thesis became one of the most widely-read works on the influence of organised crime in international sport.

The Dinner is the largest annual gathering of Oxonians and friends of Oxford University in Canada’s National Capital Region.

This year’s guest speaker will be Declan Hill (Green Templeton College, Oxford), an award-winning investigative journalist specializing in organized crime and international gambling. His book, The Fix: Soccer and Organized Crime, investigates corruption in FIFA, and is a best-seller in 21 languages.

Registrations details for the dinner can be downloaded here and are also available from the Society’s Hon Secretary Harry Corrin, at h.corrin@rogers.com

A Small Variation on the Pub Night This Month

We’re going to start 2016 with a small variation on the usual pub night (January 26). Our friends at the LSE have organized the second annual Oxford-Cambridge-LSE alumni quiz night for the University Challenge bragging rights. We ask that people sign-up using Eventbrite so that we can plan the evening — please see the Events page for details. There’s a $5 cover which includes some snacks. You’ll have to buy your own beer (and dinner if you need more than munchies).
