Richard Ovenden: Libraries as Defenders of Open Society

TPL presents distinguished Director of the Bodleian Libraries at the University of Oxford, and Head of Gardens Libraries and Museums at the University, Richard Ovenden in conversation with Nahlah Ayed (CBC Ideas), at Toronto Reference Library’s Appel Salon space.

Richard Ovenden looks at the central role that libraries and archives play in ensuring knowledge and history are preserved; how political, religious, and cultural motivations can drive censorship, book banning and other threats to our open and civil society, and how the work of libraries and archives are pillars for open society and in support of democracy.
